Nick Marsh Named David Pollack’s Player to Watch for Michigan State in 2025

Nick Marsh was Michigan State‘s leading receiver as a true freshman last season. According to David Pollack, Spartans fans can expect a big jump from him during his sophomore campaign.

Marsh’s arrival in East Lansing coincided with Jonathan Smith’s first season as head coach. The Spartans finished 5-7 overall, missing the postseason for the third consecutive season. Pollack believes Marsh will be crucial to the Spartans’ efforts for making a bowl game this fall.

David Pollack’s Endorsement of Nick Marsh

“When you watch Marsh, he came on the scene quickly last year, they were like, ‘Huh?’ That guy is big athletic — Marsh was one of the only guys that, when I turned on Michigan State tapes, was pretty consistent,” Pollack said on his podcast, See Ball Get Ball. “You watch, and you’re like, ‘Yeah, that guy’s pretty good.’

“Obviously, I thought, I thought the QB (Aidan Chiles) was pretty decent in moments. But man, oh man, could it go backwards in moments and be really, really bad.”

Nick Marsh’s Record-Breaking Freshman Season

Marsh finished the 2024 season with 41 catches for 649 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 15.8 yards per reception during his freshman season. His total for catches and receiving yards set Michigan State true freshman records in those categories, and his yards per catch averaged ranked eighth in the Big Ten in yards per catch.

Key Touchdown Performances

The first touchdown of his Michigan State career came with a bang, scoring on a 77-yard touchdown reception during the second game of the season at Maryland. He also scored against Michigan and Indiana last year.

Notable 100-Yard Receiving Games

He finished the year with two 100-yard receiving performances. He finished the Week 2 game against Maryland with what is still a career-high 194 yards on just eight receptions. Of course, that was aided by the highlight-reel 77-yard touchdown catch, but was still able to make an impact throughout the day. This came after his college debut against Florida Atlantic where he hauled in just one pass for 11 yards.

His next 100-yard performance came at home against Iowa. Again, he caught eight passes, this time for 113 yards. Despite his success during that matchup, he wasn’t able to reach the end zone.

Looking Ahead: Marsh as Michigan State’s True WR1

Could Marsh be poised for a 1,000-yard season in 2025? Now that Montorie Foster Jr. is in the NFL, Marsh is the true WR1 for the Spartans this season. It’s certainly possible, and he’s already proven his ability to be a high-impact player for Michigan State.
