Body language experts are buzzing about Emma Raducanu, who appears to be quite “besotted” with fellow tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, stemming from their recent interactions during a telling interview.
The tennis sensation is poised to team up with the two-time reigning Wimbledon champion at the upcoming U.S. Open in August—a partnership that has generated widespread interest across the sports world.
While the pair have yet to confirm any romantic involvement, rumors and ongoing speculation continue to build. During a candid interview with the BBC earlier this week, Raducanu opened up about how the partnership came to be and addressed internet chatter hinting at a potential romance.
“The Internet Is Having Fun” – Raducanu Speaks Out
A clearly thrilled Raducanu shared:
“I’m glad the internet is having fun and we’re providing some entertainment for everyone. We go back a long way and I think we both started getting to know each other a lot more in 2021. When I had that little run at Wimbledon, I think he won in five sets in the first round or something.
And then all through the U.S. Open, he had a big breakout win against Stef [Tsitsipas] in the third round but I was always trying to, like, join him in the next round because he was playing the day before me.
Ever since, we’ve stayed in touch and he’s done so well since and continued winning. It’s been amazing to see because we were speaking and friends before anyone won anything.”
Body Language Expert Weighs In
Darren Stanton, a body language expert, shared his interpretation with OLBG, suggesting that Raducanu may be harboring feelings for Alcaraz.
“I think Emma Raducanu is besotted with Carlos Alcaraz. In her interview with the BBC, you can see that her face lights up and her pupils dilate.”
Stanton highlighted a clear emotional shift:
“You can tell when her emotion shifts from speaking about general tennis to when she gets asked the question about what’s being said on the internet. When she’s asked about the rumors, she starts to look down and left.”
He elaborated on the significance of that gesture:
“Looking up is remembering general things, but looking down and left means she’s accessing internal auditory dialogue.
She shifts from instantaneously answering to carefully considering her response. I’m not saying there’s a full-blown relationship going on, but it’s one of two things:
They’re very close and there could be something there down the line.
It’s wishful thinking on her part because something about him triggers that emotional shift.”
“I don’t think it’s anything yet—but it could be a close friendship with romantic potential, or she really loves the idea of them being an item.”
On-Court Contrasts Ahead of Wimbledon
As Wimbledon prepares to kick off this weekend, Alcaraz enters with strong momentum, having just won the HSBC Championships on Sunday by defeating Jiri Lehecka in the final.
On the other hand, Raducanu suffered a setback, exiting early from the Lexus Eastbourne Open after being defeated in the second round by rising star Maya Joint this past Wednesday.
