Todd and Julie Chrisley are officially no longer behind bars, following a presidential pardon issued by former U.S. President Donald Trump, years after their convictions for bank fraud, tax evasion, and other federal crimes.
Their daughter, Savannah Chrisley, confirmed the news in a video shared on social media, though details of how Todd and Julie learned of their pardon had not been made public—until now.
How Todd Found Out About the Pardon
In a new interview on Fox News Channel’s My View with Lara Trump (airing Saturday, June 28 at 9 p.m. ET), Todd Chrisley recounted the surreal moment he first heard the news:
“This guy stops me and goes, ‘Man, I think you just got pardoned.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, okay.’ And I just kept on walking.”
Later, a correctional officer approached him:
“He goes, ‘Todd, you just got pardoned. They sent me down here to make sure you’re okay.’ And I said, ‘Well, they don’t need to be worrying about me now. Hell, if I’m pardoned, I’m great.’”
Todd also gave thanks to God and acknowledged President Trump’s role, saying:
“We owe thanks to God, and God touched President Trump’s heart… Every night I would pray that God would return me home to my wife and children. And he did that, so I’m grateful.”
Julie’s Emotional Reaction Behind Bars
Julie Chrisley described her emotional reaction in the same interview:
“I called Savannah one more time. And she said, ‘He did it. He signed it.’ And I just started busting out crying. Everyone was looking around… I just hung up. I was so nervous. It was the craziest thing.”
She added that most news in prison is usually bad, which made her joy even more confusing for others:
“They’re like, ‘Are you OK?’ I’m like, ‘I am. I’m getting out of here. I’m getting out of here.’”
The Chrisleys’ Legal Battle and Pardon Efforts
Julie was sentenced to 7 years
Todd was sentenced to 12 years
Both were convicted in 2022
Their legal team, led by Jay Surgent, worked on appeals for years. In early 2024, reports surfaced that Todd was seeking a pardon. Savannah collaborated with Alice Marie Johnson—a key figure in presidential clemency efforts—to move the process forward.
Prison Conditions and Family Complaints
While incarcerated:
Todd complained of inadequate food at Federal Prison Camp in Florida
Savannah claimed there was no air conditioning
Julie reportedly dealt with snakes in her living quarters at Federal Medical Center, Kentucky
What’s Next for the Chrisleys?
The family is currently developing a new reality show, ordered by Lifetime, expected to air during the 2025 TV schedule.
While the project was initially focused on their time in prison, producers are reportedly shifting gears to include their release and life after incarceration.
Alice Marie Johnson has also advised the family to pause before jumping into major public ventures.
Time will tell what Todd and Julie will do next—but for now, their latest remarks show they’re just happy to be free.
