One Tree Hill Reboot Receives Major Filming Update, Fans React
One Tree Hill fans have been left saying the same thing as the reboot received a major filming update.
The Beloved Series: A Brief History
The beloved series, set in the fictional North Carolina town of Tree Hill, revolved around two half-brothers, Nathan (James Lafferty) and Lucas (Chad Michael Murray), whose intense rivalry unfolded on the basketball court and in school. However, the plot took an unexpected twist when school bully Nathan fell for wallflower Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz), who was also Lucas’ best friend.
Throughout its nine seasons, the show addressed numerous hard-hitting storylines, such as teen pregnancy, marriage, school shootings, drug abuse, and kidnapping. More than 20 years after its premiere, fans remain enamoured with the show, with many visiting the picturesque port city of Wilmington, where the series was filmed, reports The Mirror US.
One Tree Hill Reboot Confirmed: What We Know
Therefore, viewers were thrilled when a reboot was confirmed last year.
Confirmed Cast and Crew
According to Deadline, the CW drama is set to make its debut on streaming giant Netflix. The publication reported that Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton are slated to reprise their roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, respectively, and will also serve as executive producers. Jensen Ackles and his wife Danneel will also executive produce through their Chaos Machine banner, with Danneel potentially returning as Rachel Gatina.
Hilarie Burton’s Tease
In an interview with People in April, Hilarie expressed satisfaction with the reboot’s progress, but refrained from revealing too many details.
“We’re at the phase right now where I can’t say anything. Before I could be like, ‘Oh, there’s a little bit of movement,” she divulged. “There’s lots of good things cooking right now, and there’s really smart, caring people working on it. And that’s always a fun thing to be a part of.”
Filming Update: Jensen Ackles’ Optimistic Outlook
The much-anticipated One Tree Hill revival seems to be on the fast track as producer Jensen Ackles gave an optimistic filming update this week.
“That’s a better question for my wife. Danneel and Sophia and Hilarie are moving quickly. I have kind of stepped back and just focused on what I’m doing,” he explained to Collider. “She’s manning the helm with that. I’m certainly on all the emails and keeping up with the progress, but it’s moving quickly. I think everybody’s hoping to be to camera this year.”
Jensen’s remarks have sparked a frenzy among OTH enthusiasts online, who are eagerly anticipating the show’s return.
Fan Reactions: A Consistent Plea
Yet, some fans are voicing a consistent plea as several original cast members remain unconfirmed for the reboot.
Key Cast Members Unconfirmed
Bethany Joy Lenz, known for her role as Haley, has expressed her willingness to join a One Tree Hill revival, though she’s unsure about her involvement in the current project.
On the other hand, James Lafferty, who portrayed Nathan, hinted at his absence from the reboot due to commitments to his comedy series, Everyone is Doing Great.
The ‘Naley’ Dilemma
Fans are particularly vocal about the potential absence of key characters.
- “Honestly why have a reboot without Nathan or Haley?” one fan wrote on TikTok, with another adding: “I won’t watch without Nathan and Haley.”
- A third said: “Without Nathan and Haley together, and Lucas and Peyton there is no reboot,” while another similarly shared: “As much as I’m obsessed with OTH it’s either all of them or nothing. It’ll suck without the entire main cast as that’s what made the show.”
It’s been reported that Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton are open to bringing other characters back, so fingers crossed we’ll get some Naley return news soon.
